Severe storm causes outages

Central Electric crews worked through the morning and into the afternoon to restore service to over 2,000 members who lost power as a result of a severe thunderstorm passing through our area Friday morning. A majority of the outages were concentrated in the northern portion of the service territory, affecting primarily Chatham and Lee counties. The storm brought heavy winds that caused downed trees and limbs, resulting in several broken poles that had to be replaced. As of 12:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, crews had restored power to all but 95 members in Chatham County. The remaining members without power was due to several broken poles caused by downed trees.  Crews are currently working to replace the broken poles and service is anticipated to be restored later this afternoon.
