Electric grid security and resilience a top priority

Securing and protecting our electric grid is a top priority for us at Central Electric and for North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives. We have multiple layers of safety and security in place across our system to help protect our critical infrastructure and to keep individuals in our community safe. For security reasons we cannot comment specifically on exact security measures that are in place.

As we do with all other areas of our service, we will continue to look for ways to best serve our members and community, including adding additional layers of security as necessary to ensure our substations and other critical infrastructure are secure. We continuously monitor, evaluate and prepare for threats to the grid and other critical infrastructure, and we are committed to incorporating learnings into our procedures and plans to strengthen the grid, enhance security and improve system resiliency.

Providing safe, reliable and secure electric service for our members now and into the future is a top priority for us and the entire electric industry. Staying ahead of challenges is a collaborative effort, and we will continue to work with other utilities, industry partners and organizations, government agencies and local officials to address concerns and reinforce vulnerabilities, including those from manmade threats that have been recently experienced.
