The temperatures are starting to rise outside, which also means your energy use will also be on the rise as you try to keep your home cool. Use the following energy saving tips this summer to help keep your home cool while saving money at the same time:

• Install a smart or programmable thermostat, it could help you save up to 10 percent on heating and cooling costs over the course of the year.
• Set your thermostat to 78°F, or as high as comfortably possible. While you are away from home, set it to 85°F. That way, you'll save more energy while you are away and can enjoy the cooler setting while you're at home.
• Run your ceiling fans on low, blowing down to help circulate cool air. Turn off ceiling fans when you leave the room because fans cool people, not rooms, but creating a wind chill effect.
• Close blinds and drapes during the day to help cool your home by blocking out the sunlight.
