Community is at the heart of who we are at Central Electric and recently, our employees took some time to support the mission of one of our local organizations, Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Moore County. Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering hand-made, fully furnished beds to children in need. SHP’s mission is to tackle childhood bedlessness, which is estimated to affect nearly 3% of the population.

Central helps fight summer hunger for kids
Central Electric recently had the opportunity to lend a hand to a great local nonprofit organization, Harnett County Buddy Backpack. Our employees packed backpacks and provided a summer food pick-up at Johnsonville Elementary School for area children ages 3-18. It's always great to give back our time and resources to aid local nonprofits who play a vital role in our local community. Check out the video to learn more about our project and how you can give back as well!
Operation Round Up celebrates giving back $1 million in grants to local non-profits
Since its inception in 2013, Operation Round Up has been a source of funding for countless non-profit organizations across our local communities. The volunteer donation program, fueled by the generosity of our members, has now reached a significant milestone - giving back over $1 million in grants to support local initiatives and projects. Operation Round Up embodies the spirit of cooperation and community support. Our members have collectively made a tremendous impact on the lives of those in need. Every cent contributed goes directly towards funding grants for charitable organizations, community improvement projects, and educational initiatives. Over the years, the program has funded a wide range of projects, from providing essential services to vulnerable populations to supporting local schools and youth programs. As we celebrate this milestone of $1 million in grants given back, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every member who has participated in the program. Your generosity has touched countless lives and made our communities stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient. Together, we have shown that even the smallest contributions can add up to create significant change. Thank you for being a part of Operation Round Up and for helping us reach this incredible milestone. Here’s to many more years of giving back and making a difference, one donation at a time.
Boys & Girls Club
We are thankful for our community and for organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina for all they do in helping pave a bright future for the youth in our community. Thank you so much for having us and letting us come be a part of your thanksgiving meals. It was an honor to help provide the meals and come serve you all. THANK YOU to the staff…the clubbers…and their families for being so hospitable and most importantly for what you all mean to the community.
Pole Top Rescue
A shout out to our very own Lineman, Cameron Bennett, who competed in the 2023 Pole Top Rescue competition held in October at Nash Community College. Cameron competed against 24 other electric cooperative lineworkers from across the state. During the competition, each lineworker executed a rescue scenario of retrieving an unconscious coworker from atop a utility pole. Each competitor, dressed in full climbing gear of up to 20 pounds, is judged on their swiftness and proficiency in radioing for help, scaling 20 feet up a utility pole, lowering a weighted mannequin and beginning CPR. Behind every service call is a lineworker who has completed rigorous training. This competition tests both the safety and rescue skills that these workers have learned and perfected. We appreciate Cameron and all of our lineworkers!

Thanksgiving is about being thankful for what we are blessed with and giving back to those in our community who may be without. Leading up to Thanksgiving, we offered a helping hand to the great folks at the West Chatham Food Pantry in Siler City. We provided entire thanksgiving meals to 50 families in need across Chatham County. A special thank you to all the volunteers at the West Chatham Food Pantry. They were a pleasure to work with and it was a honor to help them serve members of our community.

CEMC Military Service Project
Central recently had the opportunity to serve individuals in our community who deserve recognition for the ongoing sacrifices they continually make: members of our military. Partnering with the Sandhills Area United Service Organizations (USO), Harnett County Partnership for Children and Life Springs Church, the co-op organized an effort to provide care packages for our local military families. Consisting of goodies for a “movie night,†along with care items from other organizations, the goal of the project was to provide an opportunity for our military families to relax and enjoy some time together.
